Meet the Girls: The Beauties of JnL Percherons
There is something special about walking through the barn on a quiet morning and being greeted by four gentle giants (and one yearling), who each have their own personality, their own story, and their own place in the JnL Percherons family. Princess, Rosie, Ellie, and Lindy are all striking black Percherons, registered through both the provincial and national Percheron Associations, and each one is not just well bred, but the heart of our team. We cannot wait to introduce them to you.
Princess
Born in 2017, JNL Princess (F45115) has become the foundation of our program. She is definitely our team lead and carries herself with a quiet confidence that only comes with experience, and she has more than earned her name. Princess is not only a beloved presence around the farm, she is also a proud mother, having passed on her elegant lines to the next generation of JnL horses in Ellie. When paired with Princess, all of the other mares learned to be driven well and stand patiently, either at community and private rides, or ploughing competitions and shows. (While we don’t play favourites, Princess is Jim’s favourite!!)
Rosie: Bloodlines Built for Beauty
First Start Acres Rosetta (F45901), known to everyone here simply as Rosie, was born in 2020 and comes from a pedigree we are especially proud of. She is out of First Start Acres Iris (F43177) and sired by Delorme's FSA Nick (M30519), a combination that shows in her powerful build and her mischievous yet engaging temperament. Rosie loves people, children in particular, and has a way of showing up in every photo!
Ellie: A True Homebred Star
JNL Ellie Star (F45522) is one of our proudest achievements. Born in 2022, Ellie is the daughter of our own Princess (F45115) and Windsong's Triple Crown (M31153), making her a true homebred success story. Watching Ellie grow into her mother's grace while carving out her own personality has been one of the most rewarding parts of raising this herd. She has inherited Princess's calm presence, along with a spark that is entirely her own.
Lindy: Quiet Strength and Classic Lines
JNL Spring Linda (F46623), our Lindy, was also born in 2022, out of Black Perch Loosy (F42722) and Kauffman Farm's Count Jack-Pot (M30229). Lindy carries herself with a classic Percheron presence, strong and steady. She’s quickly become very proficient at pulling both a wagon and a plough when teamed with Princess.
Together, these four mares represent generations of careful breeding and a lifetime of dedication. They have earned their place as consistent, cherished presences in the show ring, at ploughing matches, and private and community events. Every ribbon and every compliment from fellow horse people only confirms what we already know: these girls are something special.
And a Little Someone New
Rounding out the family is baby Fancy, our yearling Percheron Friesian cross. Unlike her four purebred herd mates, Fancy is not registered with the Percheron Associations, but she brings a playful energy to the farm that keeps everyone smiling, and we cannot wait to see how she grows alongside the older girls who will surely teach her a thing or two.
Come See Us at the International Plowing Match in September!
We are thrilled to share that Jim and two of the girls will be showing at the 2026 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo, taking place September 22 to 26 in Walkerton, Ontario, hosted at Lang Farms. This year marks a special milestone as it will be the fourth time the IPM has come to Bruce County, and the event's 50th anniversary.
The IPM is one of Canada's largest outdoor agricultural events, drawing thousands of visitors over its five days for world class plowing competitions, agricultural demonstrations, live entertainment, and family friendly attractions celebrating rural life and tradition. It is the perfect stage for our girls to shine, and the perfect reason for you to come say hello.
Mark your calendars, bring the family, and come say “Hi!”.
See you in Walkerton! JnL Percherons
